INFORMATION ABOUT CLIPS4SALE

I am, perhaps not surprisingly, receiving messages from people asking me questions about Clips4Sale, such as what appears on one's bank or credit card statement if one purchases from them. I'm sure they publish this information somewhere but never having bought from C4S I don't know what they put. I'm sure it's quite innocuous. However, perhaps someone who has used them would provide that information here as a point of reference?

I am also being asked by some why C4S has declined their credit card. This is something you will need to address to C4S staff, as well as any queries regarding download problems. They handle all of that. I have no access to any such information and cannot assist you. Other than selling my files through C4S, I'm just as much an outsider there as any of you.

From my own experience, I have found that when a credit card is declined, it has nothing to do with the company itself; acceptance and declination resides exclusively within the purview of the banks. It's most likely that a customer's own bank is responsible for the decline. I've had this happen when I've made a purchase outside of my usual sphere of activity, triggering a potential fraud alert. A call to the bank to verify that the transaction is authentic usually does the trick.

Any additional advice you guys would care to provide here should help those who have concerns. Thanks.

Hi everyone,

I get Tropical Productions LLC as the payee on my credit card statement, and it is listed as a business transaction.

There is nothing to suggest the content of the transaction, and no mention of C4S or B2B.

Regarding decline of cards, I occasionally get a call from the fraud dept. when buying clips - mainly because the transaction is in dollars, and as Dave says, it is outside my normal spending pattern. In my case, the calls are automatic and all I have to do is press buttons on my phone to agree that the payments (usually the last 5) have been authorised by myself. If I do not do this, my card will be suspended until I call the fraud office and give some personal info and confirm that I still have my card and have made all the recent purchases.

I used to have quite a few problems with Paypal purchases to companies registered in Luxembourg, but the card company seem to have got used to these, and I get very few fraud calls these days. I don't mind them because at least it shows they are monitoring my card purchases for unusual activity.

Slight bump of an old thread but;

Just to clarify, I also get Tropical Productions LLC and it does mention this before purchasing.

Quick question though;

First time I downloaded a clip, got brilliant speeds, max download speed for me.
Second time...got between 30-40kb/s. This was about 10pm GMT, does anyone know what timezone C4S is in? Or where their serves are specifically.
Third time...I got <10kb/s at about 8pm GMT. The new Jasmine set was saying 13 hours to download! Eventually it timed out, 3 times, probably due to the ridiculously slow download speed. Has anyone else experienced this?
I tried again this morning, about 8am GMT and got max download speed again. I'm pretty sure its not my connection, unless C4S is being throttled in some way by my isp, though that's very unlikely :?:. It sounds more like server load to me which is why I'm asking if anyone else has experienced varying speeds at different times?

Hi pcwp,

Your experiences are similar to mine. I got some very high speed on my first download (I even commented here on another thread about how much faster it was), but have had rather slower speeds since then - although not as slow as some of the FF speeds.

As a Brit, I assume that the main slowdown in speeds comes from the upsurge in traffic as the US states wake up, and culminate in the slowest when it is afternoon/evening over the pond.

It is difficult because they have a range of time zones, but once it gets past 2pm London time, I really don't tend to bother as that must be about 9am US East coast time. I too, get good download speeds early morning and try to download any big files between 8 and 11 a.m. London time.

At the moment, I dont think Asia has much effect on US server speeds, but given the vast populations over there - once they all get online, the internet is going to be slow 24/7, unless there is still a short period between them going to be and the eastern US waking up.

pcwp,

According to this thread: https://www.stripperweb.com/forum/archi ... 57199.html They are located in Florida. Now I am not sure where their data center is and if their servers or connection is oversubscribed. Assuming that their servers are in Florida that would make them currently Eastern Daylight Time (UTC/GMT -5). I also have noticed that sometimes I get great download speeds and other times it can suck. The same can be said for just loading different stores that they host or the preview clips. I do have a feeling that the problems are on their side and even though they are taking a high percentage they are not funding enough of it back in to operations. I do know that running data centers is expensive as I have seen the numbers that have been reported for Apple but Apple is only taking %30 where as C4S is taking %40 and not doing as good of a job along with supporting a lot less users.

About the Internet speeds in the USA. There is a lot of "dark fiber" so the speeds of the links should not be a problem and every data center I have visited had multiple backbones they where peering with. The problems normally come up with the web host not having fast enough servers to handle the kind of traffic that they are supporting. If you hosting lots of large files and need to support lots of concurrent downloads that will require a more powerful server and disk infrastructure than just hosting a website where it is much more bursty traffic. As users go to a website they download the page and then read it. So you have a delay between each request. On files it is more of a consistant stream of data that needs to be feed to users for sustained period.

For International links to and from the USA, some of them can get overloaded at times. I do know after the recent earthquake in Japan some of the Internet traffic was being rerouted over other links that where not designed for the traffic but that all is done now. For the most part I would be surprised if Asia has much affect on the global Internet traffic as they (India, China, Japan) use their own langues, payments and services that are not hosted here in the USA.
