Help!!! Dreamhost problems - Sorted now

Can someone more local than me give them a kick up the backside?

I have had numerous attempts to download videos today, but all failed after various time periods. As mentioned on another thread, the speed was down to 1990s levels for a while - 13kb/sec - not advised with a file size of over 1Gb.

Are they just so incredibly popular, or do they build their own servers from bits they purchase at the pound shop?

(Sorry, dont know what the US equivalent of the pound shop is).

Very frustrating.

Edited: to say that after 3 hours the download speeds suddenly returned to normal. :D

Hi Loo-Loo,

I was unaware of the problem. All servers have issues from time to time. Anyway, glad it is operating properly again.

Pray tell us, Loo Loo, what manner of merchandise does one purchase at a pound shop?

You can buy anything at the pound shop Alister, just as long as it costs one pound.

There are many scams going around with items sold therein. Boxes or cans of food items that look like the full size version, which would be a bargain if bought for one pound, but when inspected closely have a reduced contents. Bars of chocolate which are the same length as ordinary supermarket ones, but much thinner inside the packaging.

I am having the same slow download speed problem again today, and I think it must be something to do with the time difference. When I download files, it will be night where the server is and presumably that is when the daily housekeeping programs are run which must slow them down significantly. Around late afternoon (uk time) the speeds suddenly increase by a factor of ten, which I suspect is when the day shift starts and the severs are all ready for the 'action'.

Thanks, Loo Loo. Here we might call it a "gyp joint." I am not sure it is politically-correct to call it that anymore.
