I've just had someone ask me if there is any real difference between the Quicktime and WMV versions of the videos I release. It's hard to make a point without running both versions side by side, but I have created a screencap from each which manage to show what I mean to some extent. The point is that I use Final Cut Pro X to process the videos, and being an Apple creation the native output format is Quicktime. The WMV version has to be created via a digital converter. I have tried several and they all give similar results.

Quick time version has more vivid color, less pixel around the head (it's kind of a pixelation aura caused by frame differences exceeding the anticipated ratios when she tosses her head in releif, more obvious pixelation in wvm). The wvm colors appear cooler, less vivid (this may actually be more accurate if oyu filmed under florecent lighting, but it makes the image look less "good). wmv is also blurrier...quick time is much more sharp...like im really there....I could almost reach out and hug her....then suddenly press down on her bladder when she isn't expecting it...the wmv....she is a ghost....try to reach out and the hologram disolves...I owe quark credits....and sisko is complaining i spend too much time in the holosuite.....

Some of the latest movies are also on MP4 version, I assume the MP4 has similar quality to WMV, rather than Quicktime.
